Organization - Summer Pre-Tryout Sessions 2020
Submitted By Administrator on Sat 03 28, 20
Due to the cancellation of spring tryouts, we will be looking at holding Pre-Tryout sessions at a later date in summer.  Once schedules and dates have been released for Tryouts of different associations, we will look at booking some dates for some development sessions.

Check in at later dates for updates as information becomes available.

Stay Safe and Healthy!

In the meantime, while you cannot get on the ice there are still many exercises and at home drills we can work on to continually keep our skills and bodies sharp!

We are now stuck in our homes for the foreseeable future.  Understandably, some of the young athletes are getting restless.... the transition for some players going from being on the ice from 3-6 times a week, to no exercise at all can be a frustrating experience for them and parents!

"If you give me 6 hours to cut down a tree, i will use the first 4 hours to sharpen the saw."  Abraham Lincoln

We can still use this time to "sharpen the saw" and be ready when we get back to playing hockey.  Have a discussion with the player and explain that this can be a time to utilize for development of skills and off ice training.    Let's remember parents - keep it light and fun!  if you want them to continue with these, it cant feel like work or a chore.  It should be something they want to do!  Make it a challenge and competition.  Which kid doesn't like trying to beat his Dad or Mom...  get creative and have fun!  Timing challenge, reps challenge, no mistake challenge....

Here are some resources for some drills you can perform easily with little equipment in your basement, garage, or driveway.

Off ice Training: 15 Minute Workout - Bodyweight   Leg Excercises - Variations Hockey Core - Workout

Stickhandling:  Stickhandling + Core   Series of Stickhandling Drills    (More advanced) - With Rollerblades

Shooting - Great advice from Aaron Ekblad    Wristshot    Snapshot        Moving the Puck      Weight Transfer    Flex IT

Have fun with these and continue to develop and try new things.  This is a great time to perfect and develop your skills!
